Julie Murphy

Director, Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC)

Julie currently serves as Director for the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission overseeing a staff of 100+ and regulating an industry integral to Colorado. She is well-versed in the multifaceted issues, including conflicts, facing natural resource management from the policy, technical and legal perspectives and works with Colorado’s oil and gas stakeholders espousing diverse viewpoints. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Assistant Director for Energy and Minerals with the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, the Hearings and Regulatory Affairs Manager for the Commission, and an Assistant Attorney General representing the Commission and Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety. In the private sector, Julie spent five years representing clients in land use, natural resources, private property, and environmental disputes. Her educational background includes degrees in wildlife biology, natural resources management and policy and, of course, law. As a Denver native, she can be found exploring the wilderness on foot, in a raft, or on skis when not working.
