For the last 18 years Ms. Melendez, has worked in a variety of development, marketing, management and sales roles, while operating a full-service agency, Smart Marketing, LLC. She is experienced and an expert in creating and executing marketing plans and in project management where she regularly juggles dozens of projects at the same time. In the tenure of her company she has formulated partnerships and relationships with dozens of local Chambers of Commerce, municipalities, elected officials, and 100’s of businesses in Colorado through effective collaboration and relationship building efforts. Her leadership, management, and motivational strategies enabled double digit growth for her company for many years and a career highlight was working with former Denver Mayor, Wellington E. Webb, on a series of projects from 2008-2010 that inspired her to act on her political dream.
As a CSU graduate and fourth generation Windsorite, her roots to her family and the community go back to 1912 when her great grandparents immigrated to the US from Grimm Russia. She credits the values instilled in her by her family and church upbringing vital to the success she has reached to date. Known by colleagues and clients alike for her tenacity, organizational skills, integrity, and fairness, she has a stellar reputation as a hard-working individual and her passion lies in nurturing and growing relationships while delivering cost effective, win win solutions.
On April 15, 2010, she became a Windsor Town Board Member representing District 4. On April 8, 2016, she became Windsor’s first female mayor. She is proud to serve her community and happy to be involved in community service and giving back to the town she loves. It is her deepest desire to continue to make Windsor a top place to live, work and play, and she hopes her involvement in the end will make a difference for generations to come.
She currently serves on the: North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization Council as Chair, MPO Executive Committee, US 34 Coalition as Chairperson, North I-25 Coalition, STAC representative, Lariat Loop Board as President, Windsor Downtown Development Authority Board, DDA Marketing Committee as the Marketing Chair, Northern Colorado Regional Tourism Authority as Chair, Upstate Colorado Economic Development Board, Off System Bridge Grant Committee for CML, the CML Executive Board and the Behavioral Health Policy Council for Larimer County. Melendez was also a 2018 graduate of the inaugural Water Literate Leaders class. She previously served as Windsor Mayor Pro Tem for two years and has sat on the Arvada and Windsor Chamber of Commerce Boards, The Hispanic Chamber of Metro Denver Marketing Committee, the Windsor Sign Committee, the Windsor Economic Development and Hiring Committee, and works pro bono with the Windsor Severance Historical Society.
She has been married for 33 years to her high school sweetheart and has raised two beautiful daughters. One followed her grandmother and mother’s footsteps making CSU her alma mater and works for the City of Fort Collins Restorative Justice program while her youngest graduated from CU in May 2018 and is working her way towards a career as a pharmacist. Her husband has spent 36 years working for Kodak now CareStream. Her passion and focus is directed to helping others while maintaining a happy and healthy personal life. She enjoys ribbon embroidery, cooking/baking, reading historical novels and spending vacation time on the beaches in Mexico. She believes you get what you put into life and lives every day giving 100% to make whatever she comes in contact with better and has some lasting impact.
