Michael Land is the President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for Terra Energy Partners since its formation in 2015. Terra has grown to one of the largest gas producers in Colorado through the acquisition of the WPX Piceance basin properties in early 2016.
Prior to forming Terra, Mr. Land served as President for the Mid-Continent Business Unit (MCBU) of Occidental Oil and Gas Corporation. He was responsible for the ongoing production and operations of properties producing approximately 109,000 BOE/day. He was also accountable for the efficient investment of approximately $1 billion in capital per year. The MCBU’s 6.9 million gross acres covered everything in the United States operated by Oxy, except for California and the Permian Basin, stretching from the Mexican border to the Canadian border and from Utah to West Virginia. The primary areas of focus were the Bakken, Piceance, Hugoton and South Texas basins.
Mr. Lands’ prior positions at Occidental included: President and General Manager of the Permian Primary Business Unit (PPBU); Senior Director, Acquisitions, of Occidental Petroleum Corporation, where he managed or was involved in over $16 billion in merger and acquisition transactions over a 4-year period; Director, Acquisitions; Senior Manager, Corporate Development; VP, Planning for the subsidiary THUMS Long Beach Company; and Manager, Special Projects for Occidental Oil and Gas Corp.
Before joining Occidental in 2000, Mr. Land was a Special Project Manager for Altura Energy Ltd., and an Operations/Reservoir Engineer for Amoco Production Company and Altura Energy Ltd., where he managed and implemented several waterflood and CO2 flood projects.
Mr. Land served on the Board of Directors for Plains All American Pipeline and on the Executive Committees of the Permian Basin Petroleum Association and the Texas Oil and Gas Association.
Mr. Land received a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1990.
